A diverse group of insects, birds, snakes, & more that Play a large role. Despite their numbers the pest still seem to stay ahead. Along with the Redtail Hawk & Cooper's Hawk there are 3 types of owls in the area seasonally. Red fox are always around and sometimes den here, wish them all happy hunting.
Native bees are one are group that we didn't realize how many types there are and we really didn't know what most of them were. Seeing different ones that all looked like various sized bumble bees made us wonder if they were all different. Great Source
Robber Flys are some big boys that are hard to photograph. They don't like you near them. Not sure how much they eat them but became a favorite when
Never would've thought so many types snakes would be around. Pics have been taken over a couple seasons around the property. All but the corn snake are seen regularly each season & the garter snakes are often a surprise rustling in the dry leaves on those warm February & March days that bring us all out.
Worm Snake
The poster child of mischievous behavior. Actually enjoy having them around but maybe because the there isn't a true vegetable garden here or they might wreck some havoc. The Old Boy went over to a tree chipmunks have been known to run to. He had his whole head in the hole for a while before I was ready to go and pulled him away. When he tried to go back I decided to look in the hole and there they were wondering what woke them up. Maples seem to hollow out around here as they get older and the forest succession cycle turns making them perfect for wildlife. Better to have some old trees or snags for wildlife to live in than share your house with them.
Just way to many deer around here. They don't care if you run at them, throw sticks at them, or try to scare them off.
This is just going to be a place to load photos of the Eastern box turtles that come and go. At some point might try comparing the shell to see how many are in the area. Not sure what odor they have but Old Boy will lead you to them if they are in about 15'. He shows no interest in them after finding their location but the main reason there are so many pictures. We do not hunt for them but will pull out the phone for a picture when we run across them.
Had read that Box Turtles liked brush piles but was surprised to see this one had climbed the brush and was off the ground. First Turtle of the year May 1st
Didn't think there would be anymore added this year but saw one 11NOV21 temp about 52. Heavy rain the night before, not sure it that had him relocating or he was just out enjoying the day. Almost blends in with the leaves
