You can show people rare woodland plants or a collection of wildflowers that would be hard to find on a long hike & not a twinkle. But show them a spice plant & their eyes light up, they start talking about a great dish they had, where they had it, who they were with, and what they all did
Pictures are from the 2021 harvest, 2022 will not begin till time for the first frost. This year the Turmeric is being grown in 20 gallon grow bags and pots to allow more room in the garden. Pre sprouting was done and it helped but also adds to the labor by starting the season early and having to keep the soil moist and keeping it warm. Will have to get dirt cost downs as the organic dirt which two types were used ran about $35 to fill a 20 gallon bag, There is a place next year where I can cut costs but will have to travel about an hour and half to get a truck load. Processed chicken manure is again being used for fertilizer. A lot of places really put the fertilizer to it both liquid and granular. In the fall a root developing organic fertilizer may be used but some more reading will need to be done

Though the cardamom has tripled in size, there are no signs of flowers. They are not near the height they can grow to so flowers could be a couple years off. Healthy looking. Not sure how to handle these over the winter. Let them go dormant or supplement light and see if they can maintain.

It also has many health benefits including being an aphrodisiac. Other popular uses include in beer and sausage recipes. Getting crowded under the lights but in two days most of it can go outside. Suppose to be 32 at night then rise to the 80's, from winter to summer.
